had "New Moon on Monday" stuck in my head all morning. Wasn't the music video all about the French Resistance fighters? And there were horses. And people waving their arms. My memory sucks.
fed Cobweb her solitary lunch meal of fishy wet food. Trader Joe's seems to have discontinued the turkey and giblets, but Cobweb devours this ocean fish variety just as eagerly, so no big. When Cobweb and Lucy came in, there were only tiny specks of food left on the plate.
researched local building contractors and called one for an estimate on our garage (since the other building contractor upped their estimate so much). I've made an appointment with this guy to come look at the garage tomorrow afternoon.
phoned my student loan company for a disability deferment. Must take a form to the meds doc when I see him in two weeks.
walked to Walgreens to pick up meds and hand soap. The fall colors are still stunning.
finished listening to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and was rather appalled at how very Christian the ending was. Wow. I knew Aslan was supposed to be a Christ figure, but he pretty much came out and said it this time. Not to mention the fact that Aslan appeared as both a lion and a lamb. Sheesh. If I knew more about Jesus, I would probably see even more parallels, but I've never been much of a church gal.
started listening to The Silver Chair (and was happy to see Eustace again, but he seems to have fallen off a cliff -- I'm not sure how great a presence he will be in the book).
got my NCIS disk from Netflix and watched two episodes (between things I was getting done). Very enjoyable.
spent a good 5 or 10 minutes trying to find a phone number for Pacific Bell to ask them to come deal with the phone cable that fell down when we got rid of our tree. Finally gave up and called AT&T, who said they would deal with it. I later discovered that Pac Bell no longer exists, and that our local calls are managed by AT&T now. Wow. I'm way out of the loop. Who knew that Pac Bell was gone? Not me!
discovered that the Baja Fresh downtown has gone out of business! Oh noes! I am so sad. I have no idea what happened, but there were hand-lettered signs on the door ("We are closed") and the cash registers were gone.
went to McDonald's (instead of Baja Fresh) with Shannon and ate a rather spicy Southwest salad. I can never finish a salad at McDonald's -- they're too big. They got rid of the Asian salad I used to get (with mandarin oranges, edamame, water chestnuts, etc.) This one had corn in it, though. Yum.
refrained from buying myself a pastry on the way home from dinner. I have gained 12 lbs in the past six months or so, and I'm not happy about it. I just eat too much junk food. It's like an addiction. It's hard to resist, but I'm going to try. And I'm going to try to not get too obsessed about my weight. A challenge.
And now I do believe I'll go watch some more NCIS. At some point tonight Shannon will probably read to me from Gene Wolfe's Return to the Whorl. We're nearly done. Lucy goes crazy when Shannon reads aloud, racing all over the house, bouncing off walls, scratching the furniture, tearing up paper, etc. She's a little monster. Shannon repeatedly takes breaks from his reading to threaten her with the spray bottle, but he rarely actually squirts her. She pretty much runs this house.
