A quiet weekend. The usual hanging out with Lisa on Saturday. Terrible service at brunch. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Afterward, Lisa challenged me to think of anything that had been done on the first try. I couldn't come up with anything. I don't think that's ever happened before.

Today I mostly watched tv, though I did take a walk in the afternoon and then went out to dinner with Shannon in the evening.

I was terribly disappointed in one of the plot turns in The Kite Runner. There was just a ridiculous coincidence, and I hated it. I've read books in which coincidences tied everything up in a surprising and satisfying manner, or humorous, or whatever, but this just felt ridiculous. Also, the villain is very comic-bookish. I like my characters with a bit more complexity. So I'm still listening to the book -- nearing the end, actually -- but I'm less impressed than I was at first. Next I'm going to get a Michael Ondaatje book from the library, which I trust will be better written.
