The Surreal Life

I find it very very disconcerting that someone I know is going to be on a reality tv show. Well, I know her inasmuch as we've met several times, we've played Win Lose or Draw together on Thanksgiving, she's hugged me most of the times we've met, she's given us free concert tickets and backstage passes, she sent us a wedding gift, etc. We don't write each other long letters or braid each other's hair (even if she did have enough hair to braid, which she pretty much never does), but we know each other, at least in an in-law sort of way.

See, Shannon's aunt, Jane Wiedlin, is going to be on this season of MTV's "The Surreal Life." Neither of us knew this until I was watching some other show and fast-forwarding through commercials when I suddenly stopped short and exclaimed loudly, "Is that JANE?" Upon verifying (by listening to her voice, mostly, since they didn't show her for very long), I had to go tell Shannon, who agreed that we absolutely MUST set the TiVo to record it. I'm curious to see how she interacts with the rest of the cast, and how they treat her. She's alway seemed very sweet, but also strong willed. Also, her career is still pretty active compared to many of the other cast members. It should be interesting.

We've never watched "The Surreal Life" in the past, but how can you resist when a member of your family is involved?

Wow! How cool and odd at the same time. I've watched the surreal life since the second season (not religiously, but since the TV is on a lot it's usually on VH1 or MTV... or CNN) and it's always interesting to see how they interact. More so than on something like The Real World because a lot of these people have had their 15 minutes. (Or more. Or less)

I used to want to go on a reality show someday, but after seeing how the press treats them now, I'd really rather not. It's just way too cruel sometimes.

Okay, now wait: Shannon's aunt is Jane Wiedlin? That Jane Wiedlin?!

(Um, would this be a really bad time to mention the crush I had on her?)

See, and here I am going to watch this season simply *because* Jane's on there (my favorite Go-Go, how could I resist? I even had her first solo album.)

Still. Odd.

It's kind of a wacky show. But, it was really interesting seeing Tammy Faye Messner interact with Vanilla Ice, Ron Jeremy and Erik Estrada.

Wow. What a kick! hee!
