Today's lunch was a hodge-podge of everything that was about to go bad, but it ended up being quite elegant, healthy, and pretty: a sandwich on wheat bread, filled with goat cheese, a sliced pear (a very small pear of a kind I'd never seen before, half green and half red, which captivated me at Berkeley Bowl a week ago), and fresh baby spinach. It was actually delicious! And afterward, I thought, "If that sandwich had been 1/4 the size and on prettier bread, it could have been served at afternoon tea!"
I'll definitely have to put sliced fresh pear on sandwiches again in the future, because the subtle taste was nice, and the texture really added something unusual and pleasant.
So sometimes cleaning out the fridge is rewarding!
Watched the season premiere of "Glee" tonight, and I am so so so bored. I started painting my toenails during part of the episode, because I just couldn't stand staring at the tv anymore when it was even *more* boring than staring at a wall (or a toenail).
I've never been a huge fan of the show. We continued watching it (after checking out the first couple episodes) primarily because *Shannon* liked it, as he's a big fan of musicals, and I never really found it more than mildly entertaining ... and the "mildly" has become even *more* mild of late.
I'm not sure if I'm going to continue to watch the show this season. I'll give it another couple episodes before I make up my mind ... maybe bring something else to occupy part of my attention so I can just perk up for scenes involving my favorite characters (Kurt and Burt Hummel, Blaine, Coach Bieste, and Brittany) and bury my brain during scenes involving my least favorite characters (Sue, Finn, Quinn, Emma, and Rachel (who I only like when she's singing)).
Maybe, if they really want to get my attention back, Neil Patrick Harris or Kristin Chenoweth or John Stamos or Gwyneth Paltrow will return. Anything's better with Neil Patrick Harris. I might watch one of those "Real Housewives" shows if NPH was on it! Or maybe not.
