Cheap Dinners in Berkeley (and a few in Oakland)

This will be of interest to almost no one, so feel free to skip this. Shannon and I eat out every Friday night, but our budget is tight ($20 for the two of us), so we have tended to eat at the same few cheap places. As I'm tired of those places and interested in trying out some new stuff, I've done some research, but the notes have been scattered on scribbled notes tacked to my cork board, so today I decided to gather them all in one place. Hence this journal entry.

In Plain Sight cancellation

So I'm a big fan of this tv show, "In Plain Sight," about U.S. marshals working for the witness protection program, and a few days ago the Announcement of Doom came out: the show has been cancelled. It will have one more season (well, mini-season, since it will be only 8 episodes), and then it will be gone.

Though I'm not active in the fandom and don't tend to participate in the various discussions I see (mostly around LJ), I do read some communities, and I've been somewhat surprised by the virulent fan response to the cancellation, especially among the Mary/Marshall shippers (who constitute most of the fans I am aware of, since that's my particular ship on this show). Everyone's flipping out, posting addresses and urging people to write to the network, etc. And I'm kinda sad that the show will be ending, but really there's this bigger thought in my mind:

My god, they might actually resolve the prolooooonged unrequited love plot within the next 8 episodes!

I mean, these same Mary/Marshall shippers have been commenting for ages that they doubt the writers will ever get the two main characters together ... until the end of the show. So ... voila! The end of the show is nigh! I have high hopes for smoochies and declarations of undying love. I look forward to jumping up and down with glee when the long-anticipated words are spoken.

I guess I just see the glass as half-full.

Okay, so maybe the writers won't wrap up that plot in the way I'm hoping, maybe they'll even just drop the ball and pretend that the tension hasn't been played up over and over again through the years, but I will persist in my hopes. 'Cause it would be sooo cool!
