deluge in a paper cup

I got a birthday present in the mail today! I was so surprised! margarks sent me Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy, which she had previously recommended to me. margarks, you didn't have to send me something just because I got you something for your birthday! Still, I'm glad of the gift and plan to start reading it when I finish The Time Traveler's Wife. Thank you!

I dug out my old pedometer today to start using it again, but the batteries were dead. So I bought new batteries and had to sit down and reprogram the thing. I followed the instructions, but I think I'm misunderstanding something (despite the helpful diagrams), because Shannon and I walked quickly to Taco Bell tonight and it took us half an hour ... and my pedometer said it was .79 miles. I don't think so. But I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Frustrating. I guess I'll walk somewhere where I know how far it is (like the Y, which is a mile) and see what the pedometer says.

I've started reading The Time Traveler's Wife, and I'm enjoying it thus far. I worried, based on the blurb, that it might be too romance novelly, but it isn't (yet). Of course, I'm only 100 pages in, so things could still go to hell.
