Last night, I kept jerking awake after these brief "naps" to bouts of coughing maybe 20+ times in a row without stopping, sometimes so desperate that I felt like I was going to pass out or have an aneurysm.
So today I went to the doctor, and she diagnosed me with bronchitis and RAD (Reactive Airway Disease, which she described as acute asthma). I came away with drugs that are expected to help me feel considerably better "within the next week." I should feel notably better each day, quoth the doc. I'm just looking forward to when I can once again sleep for an hour or two at a time, maybe more! Even 45 minutes!
In the meantime, I'm going to continue to do my best to contain the plague and not share it with the world any more than necessary. Shannon is going to do our weekly grocery run by himself tonight, and pick up our weekly "dinner out" and bring it home so we can eat here in our House of Contagion. Very romantic.
And I'll continue doing wacky stuff like unloading the dishwasher with Ziploc sandwich bags on my hands (we don't have any rubber gloves) and sleeping sitting up (for the brief moments that I can sleep) and allowing Shannon to find me from any distance and at any time of day via my constant S.O.S. transmission, which sounds a lot like hacking coughs on a continuous loop.
Sleep. I really miss sleep. I was folding laundry at 3 or 4 a.m. today while watching some crappy tv show I don't even remember now. I just felt like if I'm miserable with this coughing, and I'm miserably unable to sleep, at least I can be miserably productive. (And not in the way that coughs are productive, because yuck.) I was walking around the house, looking for quiet things I could accomplish in the wee hours (things that wouldn't disturb Shannon's sleep upstairs), because if I sat still, I would want to fall asleep, and that way led extreme unhappiness.
Sleep ... Sleep ... Where's a hypnotist when you need one?
Well, I'm starting on bronchitis-fighting meds today, so maybe tonight will be better. It's probably too much to hope that it will be drastically better, but any improvement would be welcome.
