Dim sum again -- woo hoo!

Lisa and I took BART into the city today to have dim sum at Yank Sing (in the beautifully remodeled historical-landmark Rincon Center), and they seated us out in the atrium, right next to the 5-story-, 80-foot-high waterfall-type fountain, which drops from the overhead skylights directly into a very shallow, round pool that lies on a level with the floor in the center of the atrium. There's no splashing at all, miraculously enough, but just a steady series of ripples that spread from the center in symmetrical rings out to the edges of the pool, where a small moat (or ha-ha) collects the run-off water and discourages the many fascinated small children from simply walking into the water.

We had all kinds of tasty dim sum, including the usual har gow, bbq pork buns, sesame balls, mango pudding, etc. One of the carts also brought jook around, and I've been craving jook for *months*, so I eagerly ordered it, and it was very tasty. Lisa isn't terribly fond of jook, as it's a rather subtle dish for her. She goes more for big flavors and loves hot sauce.

We also had some excellent green beans in some kind of slightly spicy paste, and they were one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten. I couldn't stop eating them! I think I could eat them every day of my life for the next 10 or 20 years without getting tired of them. If I had a personal chef, I would tell him/her to get the recipe.

I'm a big fan of vegetables, in general. Yum!

So yesterday and today were busy, each including a trip to San Francisco and a lot of socializing. (Man, it is *expensive* to go to SF! It was $7.30 round-trip!) Tomorrow I plan to take it easy. And there's a brand spankin' new episode of "The Vampire Diaries" waiting for me on the DVR (since Thursday night), so that's *definitely* in my plans. I wonder what Damon's up to now.

I love that fountain! It was created by an Exploratorium artist-in-residence whose name I don't know. :-(

I love Yank Sing, too. And there's also dim sum that's almost as good in the East Bay.

Your comment inspired me to Google the artist, and apparently his name is Doug Hollis, and his website has photos of many of his amazing projects. I suddenly have another favorite artist!

And I'd love to make those green beans with you! I guess it's the garlic and ginger that make them taste a bit spicy. And I wonder what's so scary about dried shrimp?
