Some Favorite Song Lyrics

So I decided to write that post I was talking about recently, in which I post some favorite song lyric snippets, just the lines that make me laugh or cry or whatever, the lines that evoke the strongest emotions. (If you want to listen to the song, click on the link.)

Well, I swoon and I lean 'cause I can't stand erect
She thinks I'm swoonin' just for special effect
No, I swoon and I lean 'cause I'm so delighted
When she kisses me I still get so excited
(After all this time)
And when she kisses me, I feel ecstatic
She thinks that's just me bein' overdramatic
-- "When She Kisses Me," Jonathan Richman

He screams, "My life's not open
Please get out!
I know I'm shouting
I like to shout!"
-- "I Confess," The English Beat

I'm the dandy highwayman who you're too scared to mention
I spend my cash on looking flash and grabbing your attention
-- "Stand and Deliver," Adam and the Ants

Look at it this way...
They don't want my name, and I don't want their baggage claim
My guitar is seated right where I am
So you take the plane but I'll take the bus this time
-- "You're Crazy for Taking the Bus," Jonathan Richman

You think it's only fair to do what's
best for you and you alone
It's only fair to do the same
to me when you're not home
I think it's time to make this something that is
more than only fair
-- "Call and Answer," Barenaked Ladies

Now you're punching
And you're kicking
And you're shouting at me
I'm relying on your common decency
So far it hasn't surfaced
But I'm sure it exists
It just takes a while to travel
From your head to your fists
-- "People Are People," Depeche Mode

Your love gives me such a thrill
But your love won't pay my bills
I want money
-- "Money (That's What I Want)," Flying Lizards

Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid
-- "A Case of You," Joni Mitchell

Remember the night you were with me - fell asleep by my side
Strangers together - your hand in mind
How come we never came closer when all the stars were aligned?
I thought we had a moment
-- "Fact-Fiction," Mads Langer

And you said,
"What'd you think that I was gonna do,
Curl up and die just because of you?
I'm not that weak, you know.
What'd you think that I was gonna do,
Try to make you love me as much as I love you?
How could you be so low?
You arrogant man,
What do you think that I am?
My heart will be fine -
Just stop wasting my time!"
-- "Break Your Heart," Barenaked Ladies

When she was three
Her Barbies always did it on the first date
Now she's with me,
There's never any need for them to demonstrate
-- "Life in a Nutshell," Barenaked Ladies

I've called you so many times today
And I guess it's all true what your girlfriends say
That you don't ever want to see me again
And your brother's gonna kill me and he's six feet ten
-- "Can't Stand Losing You," The Police

Seasons are changing and waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you, I'll be the one
-- "Your Guardian Angel," Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

I'm too sexy for my car, too sexy for my car
Too sexy by far
And I'm too sexy for my hat
Too sexy for my hat - what do you think about that?
-- "I'm Too Sexy," Right Said Fred

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine
-- "There's A Light that Never Goes Out," The Smiths

All you ever think about is sex
All you ever think about exclusively
All you ever think about is sex -
All right with me
-- "All You Ever Think About Is Sex," Sparks

Is he a dot, or is he a speck?
When he's underwater does he get wet?
Or does the water get him instead?
Nobody knows, Particle man
-- "Particle Man," They Might Be Giants

There's a picture opposite me
Of my primitive ancestry
Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck free
Though I respect that a lot
I'd be fired if that were my job
After killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts
-- "Birdhouse in Your Soul," They Might Be Giants

And why'd you fill my sorrows
With the words you've borrowed
From the only place that you've known
Why'd you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you?
Why'd you sing with me at all?
-- "Delicate," Damien Rice

I hate those people who love to tell you
Money is the root of all that kills
They have never been poor
They have never had the joy of a welfare Christmas
-- "I Will Buy You A New Life," Everclear

Insects crawling all around
Insects squirming in the ground
Insects gooey squeaky chewy
Should I eat them -- no!
I'd rather stomp them hurt them stomp them
Stomp them while I dance
I hurt them while I dance
I stomp them while I dance
-- "Insects," Oingo Boingo

You are repressed
but you're remarkably dressed
-- "Hairdresser on Fire," The Smiths (or is it Morrissey solo?)

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?
-- "Forever Young," Alphaville
