Susan Minot

A snippet from the wonderful short story I just read:
It's always seemed odd to me, and wrong, that the lights far away are the ones which sparkle most quickly, flickering, like the currents of the heart, the distant tremblings felt more urgently sometimes than the ones near at hand.
-- Susan Minot, "Sparks," Lust & Other Stories
The last two paragraphs are wonderful, as well, but only if you've read the rest of the story.

In the summer when I went on a huge book spree, I remember picking up a Susan Minot novel on your recommendation. I haven't had time to read in a good while (which saddens me), but I'll have to set aside that book as the next to read.

I'm a big Susan Minot fan. She writes very internal stuff, and I love character-driven stories. Her Evening is one of my favorite novels.
